Change is on the way to help housing affordability. Most people are not aware of the biggest cause of our housing crisis.
Government red tape has played one of the biggest roles in housing affordability.
Recent studies by the National Association of Home Builders have shown the government red tape to build a home has increased the cost by more than 25%
In some areas it can take around $100,000 and years to get permission to build on land you already own and that is properly zoned.
Because of these costs, in order for builders to recoup their time and investment, they need to build more expensive homes and apartments that will give them a higher/decent return. It’s extremely difficult to build affordable housing when you already have $100,000 invested in red tape before you even start building.
Federal agencies and government officals are finally taking steps to address housing affordability.
